Every two years during the Olympics, I believe there is a different feeling in the air. Do you feel it?
To me, there just seems to be an overall sense of excitement around town, like peoples’ energy is up leveled, and there is a renewed idea of what is possible–in sport and in life. We all look forward to seeing certain events that we might have participated in growing up, or watching individual athletes that we may know or know someone who knows, or even an athlete we just saw an interview with or read a story about. granted I live in a mountain community where people place a high value on athletics, but I do not think it is just athletes that take an interest in the Olympics.
I was thinking about this buzz during the Olympics the other day while I was working out and realized that it makes perfect sense. During the month of the Olympics, people are getting a daily dose of inspiration. Instead of just watching the nightly news with depressing statistics on the state of the economy or reading about all the problems we are facing in the world, we are watching and hearing about people achieving their dreams.
We are hearing about all the obstacles that these individual athletes and teams have overcome and how their perseverance and hard work has paid off. We are seeing their courage and determination. we are sharing in their joy and celebrating their accomplishments. No wonder it feels so good!
It makes me reflect on the power in seeking out and focusing on the positive. And how important it is to encourage ourselves and each other to believe in what is possible and to champion all the heroes in our lives working towards their dreams each and every day.
Who are the champions in your life?
P.S. The above photos were taken at world cup events at Park City Mountain Resort and Deer Valley a few years back and were inspired by all the awesome freestyle skiing at the Olympics the past two weeks!!!
